FOX has decided to discontinue the previously announced Empire spin-off. This doesn't mean it will never happen.

Taraji P. Henson (Person of Interest) is working on a new spin-off of Empire, which is part of her new deal with 20th Century Fox TV.

Producers Lee Daniels and Danny Strong have responded to the news of an early ending for the series.

Due to the coronavirus, the sixth and final season of Empire will end a bit sooner than expected. The last season will now consist of eighteen episodes, instead of twenty.
