The BBC's hit series on anti-corruption unit AC12 came to an end in 2021, attracting 15 million viewers. However, there were complaints that the gripping series ended with a fizzle and not a bang, and now it looks like the cast and crew are coming together to deliver another season.
The Daily Mail newspaper reports that Chong was asked about the prospect of a return at the Hollywood Saturn Awards, where she confirmed:
“I have been asked about a season, is it seven? Yeah. Potentially Nicola Rogerson will be back for season seven.”
But it is not only Chong who has made a statement about a possible seventh season. One of the series' three leads, Martin Compston, who played Steve Arnott in the drama, recently said he would "love to take his vest off again".
His co-star Adrian Dunbar, who played Chief Inspector Ted Hastings from the start, appeared to give a similar hint about the future of the series on Virgin Radio when asked about his character's Irish sayings. He said:
“The one I didn’t get in, which is kind of a really good Irish one about not stopping things happening is, ‘Don’t stall the digger.’ “That’s a good one, isn’t it? Like, you know, “You’ve got to keep going'” That’s going in the next season.”
Written by Jed Mercurio, Line of Duty was critically acclaimed for its twists and willingness to kill off characters played by celebrity guest actors. It ran from 2012 to 2021. It was broadcast by the BBC.
