Vicky McClure expressed being "incredibly excited" about the return, while Adrian Dunbar was delighted to note that "the Three Amigos" will be back on set together next year.
The return comes four years after the season six finale in 2021, which attracted more than 17 million viewers. Although it was announced at the time that no further seasons were planned, the BBC has now confirmed that season seven is officially in development.
Season seven opens with a major change: AC-12 has been disbanded and reformed as the Inspection for Police Standards and Oversight. Nevertheless, Arnott, Fleming, and Hastings remain active in the fight against police corruption—a battle that the BBC says "has never been more challenging."
The trio will tackle their most sensitive case yet. The new, charming police officer DI Dominic Gough, known for his successes against organized crime, is accused of abuse of power and sexual misconduct. However, according to the BBC, this case might be a distraction for an even greater threat lurking in the shadows.
Mercurio said the entire team is "extremely grateful" to the fans and is excited to return. Martin Compston described Line of Duty as "a job of a lifetime" and looks forward to "putting on the waistcoat again." McClure is eager to collaborate with the cast and crew in Belfast. Dunbar joked that, as they count down the AC-12 days until Christmas, it's great to know that the trio will be filming together again next year.
Line of Duty, which debuted in 2012, has grown into one of the most popular British drama series of the decade and has attracted major guest actors like Stephen Graham, Thandie Newton, Lennie James, and Kelly Macdonald.
