Beautifully written and acted series from the BBC. Especially the lead actor David Mitchell excels as the unworldly but gifted John 'Ludwig' Taylor who is a legendary but anonymous author of crossword puzzles. In his search for his missing twin brother who is a police inspector, he takes his place in the police force. It soon turns out that he can solve various murder cases with his analytical skills. I also like the British humor that is especially evident in the great discomfort and stressful situations in which the unworldly 'Ludwig' repeatedly ends up. I was lucky enough to stay in England and was able to watch all episodes on demand on BBC i-player. Oh yes, the music, full of references to that other Ludwig (by Beethoven!), is also beautifully woven through the episodes. The series also ends with a nice prelude to a possible second season!
What a fantastic series! Lots of authentic British humor and a great story about a man who takes over his twin brother's job as a police officer to find out what happened to his missing brother. Initially, he was only supposed to pick something up at the police station, but against his will, he's drawn into his brother's work. It then turns out that his background as a puzzler and puzzle designer makes him a brilliant detective, and he solves one murder after another.
Very nicely presented, but the only thing I find really strange is that none of the colleagues seem to realize this isn't really theirs, despite John's very unusual behavior. Oh well, you just have to get over that. I'm currently on episode 4, by the way, so who knows, maybe that will happen.
