How you can remain fascinated by a series in which apparently nothing happens for six seasons. A look at the advertising world in fifties New York. Just to watch Don Draper casually roll out Heineken across the United States with the voluptuous derriere of his secretary in one hand and a heavily smoking Lucky Strike in the other. Mad Men nestles with childish ease in the list of Sopranos, The Wire, Carnivale, Homeland, Game of Thrones, Borgen AKA compulsory homework.
This series is not for the generally ill-educated and stupid (ill-informed) TV viewer. You don't have to explain anything to the real Mad Men fans, they know how brilliant this is and why. Only for those with style and class, depth, patience!
Admittedly, not much happens in Mad Men. That alone says enough about the quality of the screenplays, because you keep watching for six seasons. Unlikely and intelligent series, I find this, really with nothing else to compare. My wife is watching and that also means something. She's a much tougher critic than I am (grin).
It's a series you have to get into. The characters are extensively explored. It wasn't until episode 7 or 8 that I started to get into it. And the storyline gets stronger. The 1950s-60s are portrayed very well in everything. All in all, a series worth watching.
I think it's the atmosphere that keeps me busy in this series, the 70s atmosphere that I can just remember, at least we are already in the early 70s with the series now. definitely still watch it
I think I should join Marksson. I've now watched episode 7, but sometimes I wonder why I'm actually watching. Understood that the series will get going a bit from episode 9, so I'll try to hold on for a while.
I have to go back to my earlier comment. I've seen the first season in its entirety and the episodes are getting stronger along the way. It all looks a bit slow, but the characters are developed very nicely. It's not a series that I can recommend to everyone, but it still manages to keep you interested. I still don't like it, but I'm curious about the second season.
Well I started this series because I heard good stories about it. Okay, well I often need 5 or 6 episodes to get into a series (even Dexter) but this? I don't get what's so good/fun/interesting about it. Watched 6 episodes now and all I see is a lot of bullshit, more smoke, quite a bit of sex (but again no tits or anything) but nothing fuck happens - sorry for the pun. If you have trouble falling asleep at night, this is your series! And the humor is also very lacking. So I stopped.
