December 2020: MySeries in 500 words

December is supposed to be a celebratory month packed with funny lights, great food and an amazing vibe. Due to the lockdown and the many rules, December 2020 looked a whole lot different than we had hoped. Just like the previous months, December was packed with news about Covid-19. Besides bad news and another lockdown, there was good news. EMA (European Medicines Agency) approved the first vaccine. In January 2021, the first vaccines will be given to Dutch people.



For December to be such a dark month with quite a lot of Christmas lights, it was hard for many people. But it was also a month of hope as there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel. The vaccine will not immediately result in us being able to go out for dinner, enjoy shopping, party, visit movie theatres, go to escape rooms, music festivals and other great activities that we weren't able to do in 2020.

But we're getting there. Especially those who work in health care, a vaccine will hopefully put minds at ease. This doesn't mean we're there. The question remains if everything will go back to 'normal'. In other countries all over the world, it doesn't go all that well either.



Production on various series is still halted regularly due to corona cases at the cast and/or crew. The number of episodes for some seasons is likely to be adjusted. This may also lead to networks deciding to increase the spring and summer season. This could mean that these seasons will not stop in May but in June or July. For now, we haven't got a clear idea about what the networks are going to do.

January 2021 will see the return of a lot of returning and new series and programmes. The series fan will not end up being bored. But honestly, I'd rather go out than spending another month on the couch. 2020 featured enough of that.

Let's hope that the Dutch lockdown ends on the 19th of January and that we'll be able to work our way towards being a normal society once again. Even if it means that all we'll be able to do is go to the movie theatre or enjoy a succulent meal in a restaurant. I for one can't wait to visit another escape room. Forgetting the world for an hour or so is something I can definitely use after this peculiar December.

This was also the month that featured the series of the year election 2020. Writers have nominated great series, actors and actresses and the voting has started as of the 4th of January in 2021. Soon, an overview will be released that sheds a light on all that happened at MySeries.
