Yeah, I don't understand why they ruined the Klingons so much. I also think the series is heading towards woke. All LGBTQ ingredients are in there..

Well I just watched the first episode and I'm totally into it. Great pilot :) I have not seen the Star Trek series, I therefore consider what is now in series land and not based on nostalgia.

I'm not quick to say anything about a season of StarTrek, which I love across the board, but the last season was hard to watch, but this season really hits the spot. It makes me want to vomit, how moralistic… this has nothing to do with StarTrek anymore… storyline is nice but not for ST.

4.3
I was able to buy the first two seasons in a nice offer and watched them for the past week. And when you are binging, you notice more things than when you watch an episode every week (without Dutch subtitles). And unfortunately this has changed my opinion quite a bit. So I took a look on IMDB to see what the consensus is there. And to my surprise the show does have an average of 7.3, but if you look at the user reviews, I hardly see any good reviews. See for yourself here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5171438/reviews?sort=submissionDate&dir=desc&ratingFilter=0 And unfortunately I agree with the almost all negative reviews (and substantiated, because only "this is sh * t "shouting is not a review ;-)) agree. This isn't actually Star Trek, just a SciFi action series that has awarded itself the ST label because they have those rights. Star Trek has always been a positive show. Mainly aimed at discovering new worlds and races. If not Discovery. S1 is mainly about war and the Federation is almost wiped out. Not very Star Trek. And how that is solved is very easy. The prime directive was leading in the other series and the primary premise is that everyone counts. Whether they are blue, green, brown, yellow or white. Man, woman or lizard doesn't matter either. Everyone within the ST universe has the opportunity to excel. But for the creators of Discovery, this was not enough. As a result, the whole show has become a politically correct SJW knit where the diversity has been taken to the extreme. The rainbow had to be even better represented and the plus size people were underrepresented until now. So we also worked on that. There have always been women in strong roles on Star Trek. Think of Janeway, Kira Nerys, B'lana Torres and I can name a few more. But now Discovery's bridge has become a feminist picture in which, except for the captain, no white man appears. And that captain turns out to be one of the bad guys. Only around Pike they couldn't get through a storyline they chose. But they have now found a solution. Pike gets its own series and Discovery is now heading into the future almost 1,000 years, so they don't have to stick to the canon at all. And that doesn't bode well, I already saw in the first episode of season 3. In addition, I have been very annoyed by what they have done with the Klingons. They have become a caricature of what they are supposed to be. According to Star Trek tradition, they are a military people based entirely on an important code of honor. But now they have become stupid killer pirates. With hardly recognizable make-up. Ships that don't add up and we've never seen them, and a language that makes them seem like they are constantly vomiting. It really doesn't make any sense at all. And I haven't seen any Star Trek shows that last three minutes that long. Time is relative and that is also part of the story, but every time some sort of timer expires, there is an endless debate, or worse, crying. Michael Burnham (why does a female character have a masculine name anyway?) Has only two expressions. Angry and sad. And for someone who has been raised so-called Vulcan, that is quite startling. In many of her actions logic goes completely out the door, so that education has been of little use, it seems. Absolutely no thought has been given to this character En Spock. I just don't want to talk about that. What they do with that is too stupid for words. Anyway, I think, along with a lot of other fans I see on IMDB, Gene Roddenberry would turn over in his grave if he saw this. And I don't really know if I'm going to watch season three. As a Trekkie I will of course give it another chance. But after S03E01 I actually gave up that this is still going to be something.

As a fellow Trekkie, I totally agree with you. But unlike you, I already dropped out after season 1. This series, and Picard is the same, is a blot on Gene Roddenberry's legacy. The great thing about the old series is that they always showed the gray area, but these new series are only used to preach the new woke religion. I've given up on Star Trek for good, and most of the other new series too.

I agree with you. I think diversity is a good thing, but it's just too much. There are So many hmm moments in the series that I really have to conclude that it is not worthy of starting stretch ..

I couldn't have said it better! It's totally how I feel about it too. Not only the Klingons have changed, other familiar ones such as the Ferengi also look very different. But why? And then that Spore Drive that allows them to literally jump to anywhere in the universe in an instant. That doesn't make it exciting anymore, does it? In fact, there will be no more travel in space. A threat somewhere in the galaxy? Go ahead, just jump to it and the problem is solved. Where are the days when people traveled light years away, discovered new worlds and encountered strange creatures? Now there is nothing left in terms of tension. When they encountered the Borg in TNG I was on the edge of my seat. Just like in DS9 with the Dominion and Enterprise with the Xindi threat. Voyager with Janeway was also great, especially when they entered Borg space. That was very exciting SF! Discovery fully complies with the current woke event that makes me sick to my stomach. In previous Star Trek films and series you also saw everyone of all colors and sizes represented, which is of course a great thing. Nothing wrong with diversity, but here the whole LBHQT thing is pushed down our throats in such an exaggerated way that it makes you feel sick. Men kissing each other? That's fine, but why does it have to be so magnified in every episode in an SF series? You see the same thing with "The 4400". If this becomes the new standard for series, I seriously doubt it.

I'm halfway through season 4 now, there's really everything in it now ;) for me a reason to stop. Makers are completely crazy, really woke!

The series has made too many changes in the Star Trek universe, so I dropped out after 8 episodes. The Klingons look and talk differently. The technique is better than in series that take place later. As a standalone series it might be something, but not as part of Star Trek

On the one hand, you are right. I also didn't understand anything about those Klingons and that revolutionary Sporedrive that is nowhere else in the canon. But on the other hand, I think introducing Kirk's predecessor, Captain Pike, and Number One from the original TOS pilot, is a nice addition to the ST stories. So yes, there are certainly (unwanted?) Changes made, but also wonderful additions. With me, the scales tip to the latter. I think it's a great series. I also can't wait for the next season, which will take place very far into the future. Beyond a ST series has gone before ...

I also think it's a shame that it is a pre-TOS series. I'm tired of the whole TOS era. I'm still hoping for a series set in or just after the TNG era. I still think the TGN series such as ST-TNG, DS9 and Voyager are the best Star Trek series. But I am happy that they have made the leap into the future, after which it is now a bit less TOS. Perhaps the makers have also realized that the viewer prefers to go further into the future. I just don't find Discovery really exciting and mysterious (yet), although that strange anomaly does make it better. Furthermore, I think the series moves very slowly, not much happens. And who came up with those weird Klingons? They don't look good at all. What's wrong with the old one? In the meantime I have also seen a Ferengi and an Andorian, where the Ferengi looked completely different without that characteristic square head with those big ears. I think they should also leave out that woke LGBTQ+ stuff. That Adira, that girl who looks like a boy, has a Trill boyfriend named Gray who suddenly became a girl including eyeshadow. And that constant hugging, it's like "The Bold And The Beautiful" with all that love drama. They're putting more and more emphasis on that woke stuff. The new reboot of the series "The 4400" is just as bad and I stopped watching it for that reason. It seems like the series was only rebooted for woke reasons because it's not about anything else. I hope this kind of woke brainwashing doesn't become the new norm for TV series.

We as Star Trek fans also enjoy Discovery. My dad has even seen everything from Star Trek and can just enjoy it. Yes, Burnham's name is Michael, as some women are also called Stevie (Nicks), Daryl (Hannah) or Glenn (Close). Who cares. It's just what bothers you. The first season had some start-up problems, but after that it went like a train in our opinion. Star Trek is known as a progressive series that literally pushes and pushes boundaries, as they always have. Only some die-hard fans stay behind the boundaries of the past. And that is a shame, because it is a series that deserves a fair chance.

It's totally fine that you and your father think it's a top series! What I am calling is just an opinion and it is likely that not everyone agrees. So especially enjoy the third season. Episode 2 is coming soon. I am just curious what you mean by "the frontier of the past". Because I don't like all new Trek. Although Picard is actually a bit too dark, I thought that was a great series. And I laughed at Lower Decks. But I do have some caveats about Discovery ;-)
