Well, I'm amazed at myself. What I couldn't do at Foundation, I can do now. I can see this as a fun science fiction series. Apart from the names, it doesn't have much to do with Star Trek, but it is a very nice SF series with nice discoveries. The last episode, number 8, is not super original with a god-like entity, but it is very funny. Almost as much fun as The Orville. I remain a bit disappointed with the liberties the makers take with the Star Trek canon, but I have decided to simply not see it as Star Trek anymore. And then you start paying attention to other things and it turns out to be quite fun. I bumped up my grade a bit. And yes, it is quite woke, especially in terms of cast. But as long as the captain is someone who exudes authority (except in the last episode ;-)) and is suitable for that position, instead of an unhinged idiot who starts a war and cries like crazy, like in Discovery, I can look through that.

Good analysis that I completely agree with :) I also think it is a nicer series than the chaotic Discovery that is full of wokism. That is also the case here, but slightly less disturbing. That is why this series is fun to watch. But I'm still waiting for a new series that is truly the successor to TNG.

I thought this was one of the surprises. Firstly, I had no idea it was coming, secondly, it was just fun to watch. I have to say that I am not at the age to spend centuries comparing everything with "the previous Star Treks", which is starting to get a bit old now. We're talking about series made in another century. Let it go for once and just enjoy the new range of SF series.

You are right in principle. I would like to see some Star Trek without ties to the old series so that I can look at it with a new perspective. But since they currently almost only make Star Trek series that take place just before or after the series from the 60s and 80s and they always use characters from those old series, it becomes very difficult not to make comparisons with them. And unfortunately, these new series often do not come out very favorably from that comparison.

First an episode intertwined with a cartoon "Those Old Scientists" and now a musical "Subspace Rhapsody"? I'm really done with that nonsense. Come up with a real SF Star Trek series that follows up TNG with modern spaceships, which then go further than ever in a new unexplored part of the galaxy, for example, or in a completely different galaxy. That would be nice. What are the makers so afraid of? TNG series such as TNG, DS9 and Voyager were the most popular Star Trek series ever, why not expand on that? That old TOS crap is really killing me now.

Man, man, man...Think season 2 was written by the creators of The Simpsons. Or they were all on the heavy stuff. That's why only 4 because there are only 4 episodes worth watching! The fact that the latter has a sequel in possibly season 3 (if that happens?) cannot appeal or tempt me to see it... It will end well anyway. I'm very open-minded when it comes to scify, but what I saw here is sad and completely illogical and way too much sought after! Season 3?, not necessary for me.

Too bad, too bad, too bad. Kurtzman and Goldsman manage to thoroughly screw this up as well. It's not the stories. As an SF series it is quite enjoyable, although all the stories so far are not really very original. And Anson Mount does his best, just like most of the other cast members. No, the problem here also lies in the fact that the Star Trek canon is being thoroughly renovated and simply no longer makes sense. That's the problem when you work with characters who have a background of 60 years and you think you can do it better. So no. It is very unclear why those two incompetent jokers always feel that they have to make series that take place before the existing timeline. They may be thinking of giving older Star Trek fans something they recognize and thus attracting them. For the newer fans, the complete CGI package is pulled out to lure them in this way. But it does not work. It would work if you respected the existing storylines, built up over decades, and didn't change the existing and beloved characters too much. But that's exactly what they do. With Spock, with Uhura, with Christine Chapel, etc. And so the older fans turn away in horror and the new fans get a distorted view of what Gene Roddenberry actually wanted to achieve with his "Wagontrain to the Stars". It would have been better if they had gone in a completely different direction with Star Trek. More in the future, or a completely different part of the Milky Way, like Voyager did, for example. Then they could have made a good SF show with all kinds of small references to the existing series and everyone would have been happy. But now the Enterprise looks way too slick and things just don't add up. Example? The federation had never heard of the Gorn (episode 01x04) before the episode "Arena" of TOS. But this story takes place years before that. Is not true. The people who saw the first TOS pilot "The Cage" know that the character of Number One (Una) is wrong. And they will also wonder where that doctor comes from. There are more things that probably bother stupid purists like me, but there seem to be a lot of them on the Internet ;-) Given the previous attempts by the "men" to make Star Trek, I would actually shouldn't be disappointed at all. Yet I am. Pike on a five-year mission, that seemed really great to me. And now I just hope that I can get over my own shadow and continue to see this as an SF series. But knowing myself, I'm afraid that this won't work and that I will eventually stop this series, just like with ST-DISCO.

I completely agree with you. They should stop milking that TOS era and make a real successor to The Next Generation. And without Picard, because he is retired. Just a new cast with a new advanced ship instead of that old-fashioned TOS Enterprise. Now, "Strange New Worlds" is enjoyable for SF enthusiasts, but just like "Discovery", it is completely ruined by all that woke stuff. As many actors of color are used as possible and of course the corresponding "LGBTQ" alphabet is included. And why? As far as I can remember, Star Trek has always been a very diverse series and that was of course a great thing. Look at Uhura, Sulu and in TNG Worf, La Forge, Guinan, etc. all top actors of color that I enjoyed watching.

No, I'm giving up on Goldsman and Kurtzman. After a promising first season, they manage to completely screw it up. I'm quitting the "new Star Trek".

I have this with episodes 7 and 9. The cringeworthy seventh episode of the second season is intertwined with a cartoon a' la Roger Rabbit and I skipped the ninth episode, which was known to be a musical. The trailer I saw was enough for me to skip this episode. Hopefully they will stop after this season and the makers will focus on a successor to TNG. I'm really done with the whole TOS thing.
