The Crown will end after season 5

The Crown is a British historical drama series by Netflix about the British royal family. The series premiered in November 2016.
The third season appeared in November 2019. In that season of The Crown, Queen Elizabeth is no longer portrayed by Claire Foy, but by Olivia Colman. Prince Philip, Lord Snowdon and Princess Margaret are portrayed by Tobias Menzies, Ben Daniels and Helena Bonham Carter, respectively. Josh O'Connor plays Prince Charles.

The Crown will be completed after five seasons. The original plan was to make six seasons about the life of Queen Elizabeth. Creator Peter Morgan has now changed his plans and at the same time announced who will be the third and final actress to play the Queen: Imelda Staunton. She is known for Harry Potter in which she played Dorothea and she has also appeared in series such as Psychoville, A Confession and Cranford.

The fourth season of The Crown is already in post production. It is expected to release on Netflix near the end of 2020. Peter Morgan is currently working on the fifth season. “At the outset I had imagined ‘The Crown’ running for six seasons but now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop,” Morgan told The Hollywood Reporter .
