The Kominsky Method - Complete series
Sandy Kominsky (Michael Douglas, Green Eggs and Ham) is an elderly actor who has enjoyed a short period of success in the past. Now he is a teacher in Hollywood for young and older students with big acting ambitions. Kominsky's humble acting studio is run by his daughter Mindy (Sarah Baker, Young Sheldon), with whom he gets along better and better over the years. Meanwhile, Sandy hopes his trusty agent Norman Newlander (Alan Arkin, BoJack Horseman) can get him one more big role.
Kominsky can tell his students fascinatingly about how to open up, overcome their fears and face challenges. He himself prefers to deny his own problems and runs away from difficult situations, such as his prostate problem and visiting Eileen, Norman's terminally ill wife. Throughout the first season, Sandy develops feelings for Lisa (Nancy Travis, Last Man Standing), a divorcee attending his classes.
The strength of the series consists of the wonderful interaction between Sandy Kominsky and Norman Newlander. They have known each other for years. In addition to being Sandy's agent, Norman has become a rare friend in tough Hollywood. Their dialogues are nice and cynical, but the situations that the two older men have to deal with are lifelike. In the final season, the series takes a slightly different turn due to some dramatic developments. This Netflix series was created by Chuck Lorre, creator of Two and a Half Men, among others, and part of the humor is very recognizable.
In total there are 22 episodes spread over three seasons. That makes the series clear and the humor remains fresh, even in the last season. The great row of guest actors and actresses certainly contributes to that. Famous faces such as Paul Reiser (Mad About You), Kathleen Turner (Californication), Jane Seymour (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman), Danny DeVito (Taxi) and Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) can be seen. And that's just a small summary.
Since The Streets of San Francisco I have been a great fan of Michael Douglas' work and it is great that, in addition to his work in films such as Marvel's Ant-Man, he also continues to showcase his talent in television series from, for example, HBO and Netflix. In any case, The Kominsky Method is a nice dramatic comedy series that I highly recommend. In any case, The Kominsky Method is a nice dramatic comedy series that I highly recommend.
