After watching the first two episodes, I can already conclude the following: Taylor Sheridan has done it again. And give Michelle Pfeiffer the Emmy right away, as far as I'm concerned. A series about grief, but set in the Yellowstone area. I'm already a fan.

The Madison is not a spinoff of Yellowstone. It is not about the Dutton family here, but about two brothers from Montana, the Clyburns, one of whom has built his life in New York City (Kurt Russell), where he has become fabulously wealthy and is happily married to his wife (Michelle Pfeiffer), with whom he has two daughters and two granddaughters.

The other brother (Matthew Fox from Lost) has always continued to live on his ranch. He is unmarried and childless, and an avid fly fisherman. He has some horses in the stable, but certainly don't imagine a cattle farm like in Yellowstone.

In episode one, something terrible happens that acts as a catalyst in the lives of all members of the Clyburn family. The landscape plays a major role in the series; it is beautifully captured, and partly because of this, you as a viewer are completely immersed in the Montana way of life. Everything is top-notch, just like in Taylor Sheridan's other series—the casting, the sets, the script—and everything feels heartfelt and makes you think.

Pfeiffer is magnificent; she is still just as good as in The Fabulous Baker Boys, Scarface, Tequila Sunrise, or Frankie & Johnny. She is the heroine of this series and the lead role with a capital H.

My wife and I found the first two episodes (more than two hours of film) truly beautiful, and we therefore recommend the series to all our friends.

Honestly: I am really pleasantly surprised by The Madison. For me, already one of the better series of this year. Coming from the creator of Yellowstone, you immediately notice the quality: strong atmosphere, good pacing, and characters that really stick with you.

The series knows exactly what it needs to do and does it incredibly well. The build-up, the tension, and the way everything comes together make it truly addictive to watch. You can tell that attention and craftsmanship went into this.

So this is not an average series, but truly one of the highlights of this year. Strong, compelling, and absolutely recommended!
