Already after two episodes as clear as what, an absolute top series. Top ten of 2020, as far as I'm concerned. Okay, Netflix follows its algorithm that has been following it since Stranger Things (poor dorky (orphan) girl gets some superpower and outclassed everything else), but it works! So they keep doing it, luckily, because otherwise we would never have been able to see The Queen's Gambit. They create an atmosphere that is somewhat reminiscent of Harry Potter, or Warrior Nun (sounds ridiculous, I know, but you will see it if you start paying attention) and the story takes place in the 1950s and 1960s. the previous century. I actually thought that was done really well, bringing that time back to life. I believed it and I was completely with it. Actors were convincing, not too black and white, because I personally don't like that very much. The world is gray. Life is gray. And they also dare to tackle difficult subjects. What I also liked was the way the main character bonded with someone else (which I can't tell because I don't want to spoil it) and that in both the first and second episode actually ... Me like. Me like very much.
Finding a series that is different from mainstream remains difficult. Fortunately, this is another one. Beautiful series! The lead role, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, is portrayed very convincingly. Everything directed with great care. Music from those years; delicious. The clothes, a feast to watch. Nice shots, lighting. Atmosphere (America) from those years also well presented. And even though you don't know anything about chess, you get completely sucked in, every episode. A winner!
Sitting breathlessly for 7 episodes, a beautiful story with excellent acting presentations and filmed so beautifully. Nothing but praise for this series!
