The Sinner is an American crime series broadcast by USA Original Network. Three seasons have been released so far, each consisting of 8 episodes of 45 minutes each. Each season has its own story so you always look at other actors and actresses with the exception of the main character, detective Harry Ambrose. The name The Sinner is derived from the English translation of the title of the book Die Sünderin by the German crime author Petra Hammesfahr. The German books on which the series is based make the series a bit un-American. In the first season, Jessica Biel played the lead while now in charge of production. Although occasionally fierce scenes occur, the strength of the series lies mainly in the psychological depth and the intelligent construction of the plot. This demands a lot from the actors. Bill Pullman plays Harry Ambrose and he does it with gusto. Ambrose is a very good cop and has a few personal issues that make him very interesting as a character. In season 2, the then 14-year-old Elisha Henig plays a beautiful role and the same can be said of the actress Carrie Coon. The Sinner is a good crime series with intriguing stories, beautifully filmed and framed with beautiful music as well.
I like season 2 better than the first. Multiple storylines. More excitement. I notice that this season I want to quickly see how the story develops. I had a little less that with the first season. I'm looking this away on a weekend. Delicious. A 7 for Season 1 but an 8 for Season 2.
I had counted down to season 3, which was disappointing this season. Season 2 surpassed the first part. Both have an original storyline with a twist. This was missing in this season. It's predictable and only a game of the crook and the cop. You might get a little more character development, but that doesn't make this season exciting enough. What a pity that they have chosen a different path. I hope season 4 is so much more like season 2. Season 3 I give a 6.
Every week I watched The Sinner very curiously to find out what happened to Cora. But that turned out not to be as dark as I had thought / hoped for the series. A big point deduction for The Sinner after seeing the last episode.
I really found Season 3 a disappointment after the first two. Very unbelievable and long-winded. The characters also do not acquire real character, you can hardly muster sympathy for them. And that was exactly what I had in seasons 1 and 2! Unfortunately.
The series started very well but especially the last 2 episodes they lost me. Especially in episode 7 things happen that I thought weird. All in all, the ending was very disappointing .. By the way, I wouldn't call the series a 'thriller' either.
Just renewed for a 2nd season ... Don't understand why they still release series with the term "limited series" which means that it only consists of 1 season, because just like Big Little Lies, The Sinner has also been extended due to success. Both good series, but the story has been told and completed. A 2nd season is therefore not necessary. Of course it is about the money again ....: /
I think that is 'limited series' marketing so that if it is viewed badly they can say that it was always only intended for 1 season. Agree that the story has been told in both series, although a completely different story could be set up for Detective Ambrose. I have my doubts about Big Little Lies.
Get your reaction, but The Sinner continues as an anthology series. So different story and probably different actors. The renewal has already been discussed in week overview 10: https://www.mijnserie.nl/nieuws/roundup/5105-weekoverzicht-10/
Seen the last episode yesterday. This series was recommended to me because it would be very scary. Ultimately, it is more just a kind of detective series and the 'scary' was not too bad. The episodes are exciting enough to keep you interested, but all in all it was actually quite disappointing.
Too bad the series has ended. What a fantastic actor Bill Pullman is. I thought the first season was fantastic, the 2nd season a little less so, the 3rd season a little better, but the last season was "the icing on the cake" for me. Highly recommended for those who have not yet seen this series.
