Tokidoki

Tokidoki is an American documentary series which aired on VPRO. The series premiered on September 16, 2018.

In Tokidoki Paulien Cornelisse looks at the country with emphasis on language. Take kawaii that means cute and plays an essential role in Japanese society. This contrasts with the insecure aspects of Japanese society: the fact that Koreans are seen as inferior, that employees regularly die, and that extra-marital children are totally not accepted. There is almost no social security, but during the nuclear disaster in Fukushima busloads of volunteers were transported on a daily basis from Tokyo to the disaster area.
