Sometimes you sometimes watch those films, which, deliberately or otherwise, are so incredibly bad that you really have to like them. Tarantino and Rodriguez, in particular, are true masters of the cultured B-movie world. Who does not remember Danny Trejo, who jumped through that window with his pockmarked head in Machete and used the colon of his attacker as a safety line? At the time, I could hardly suppress the urge to get up in the middle of the cinema and applaud hysterically. Or that end of Death Proof, in which Rosario Dawson (Marry me!) With her friends kept pounding on Kurt Russel's head until it sounded like they were beating a ripe watermelon. Loved it. So far, unfortunately, we have not really seen this genre in series land and that was, according to the man behind the film series Evil Dead, Sam Raimi, sniffed from the rats. He thundered into Starz's office on high legs and kept hitting the table stoically, until someone with a little decision-making power came to speak to him et voilà… Ten episodes Ash vs Evil Dead in pocket and the viewer is going so well notice that things have already been extended for a second round halfway through season one. It's been thirty years since Ash lost all his friends on a camping trip that got out of hand. What started as a cozy vacation somewhere in a remote log cabin in the woods, turns into an unprecedented bloodbath. Accidentally summoned demons take possession of the bodies of Ash's friends and provide holiday snaps that you really don't want to revisit later with your family while enjoying a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. Ash doesn't come out of the fight completely unscathed either. An evil force takes control of his right hand, and Ash has no choice but to attack himself with a chainsaw. Well, that's how those things go. It is now 2015 and Ash has decided to stop worrying about things after all that misery. Ash doesn't really care about anything anymore. He lives at a trailer park in a dilapidated caravan, at the age of sixty, still ricochets lonely babes in the toilet of the pub (ok, we'd all like that) and pays his weed from a clumsy job at the local Media Market. When he's attacked there in the warehouse by a bloodthirsty Barbie, Ash realizes he's probably not just having this doll dancing. The dead are back and they are hungry. He soon finds out that he himself has helped this problem out into the world and there is no other option than to tie the chainsaw back up and fight evil. After series like Fargo, 12 Monkeys, From Dusk Till Dawn, Limitless and Minority Report, this is yet another attempt to take a movie from the big to the small screen and that's, unlike some of its predecessors, I think quite successful. Ash vs Evil Dead may be a bit more camp than the films Evil Dead and Army Of Darkness of which it is related, but that makes it a series that can be viewed by a slightly wider audience. A slightly broader audience, because there will still be enough people who find this perfect. It's a bit like dressed up as cowboys go to De Toppers ... Either you love it or you think it's the result of severe oxygen deficiency at birth and the result of years of eating microwave meals and watching SBS6, there is actually a middle ground not. I liked Ash vs Evil Dead. Not “16,234-people-have-given-these-on-IMDb-mean-a-9”, but definitely worth a look. Even if, like me, you have not seen the earlier films at all. In an overkill of hospital, police and dysfunctional family series it is something different and different is good. Something with peanut butter and have that on your bread every day. Do you love peanut butter? Then stay very far away from this one. If you like a slice of that weird under-the-counter sausage from the butcher on your bread every now and then, give Ash vd Evil Dead a try. www.gumstarr.com

Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! OMG! Did you read that? That was my way of sounding like an obsessive high school girl. Ash vs Evil Dead is fucking awesome !! See, this is escapism! This is what television is made for. Sometimes it seems like a dirty word, escapism. Sometimes it's like you should be ashamed of wasting your mind and going with that fucking banana. And, I get it: mind on zero entertainment is in most cases not of high quality. Often times this kind of entertainment does not even succeed in their own intention: to entertain. Then it gets tricky. Then why would you be patient with, for example, the many thirteen in a dozen series of the network channels that are not really progressive and do not know how to entertain. As mentioned, it concerns the last criteria. Ash vs Evil Dead is just fun! The first episode, El Jefe, proves that 'low brow' can be just as cool as series that constantly beat themselves in the chest. The point is that the viewer is rewarded for his investment. It doesn't matter what genre, that is and should be the goal of every series. That's why I say welcome back, Ash Williams. Welcome back! It's a pleasure to see Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead) again as Ash Williams after all these years. The man is now much older, but he plays this role with verve. The manners, the charisma and the attitude it takes to sell the over-the-top stuff. It's all here. And these qualities Mr. Williams will need now that after thirty years all hell breaks out again. Of course you can find it strange that Ash is getting things going again in such a clumsy way. If you look at his lifestyle, he must have been super drunk and lame more often. Anyway, to get things going, of course, Ash had to cast those spells. He will know that too, because the Deadites are back. They are by no means finished with Ash and still have several apples to peel with him. After this mistake, Ash simply thinks he can leave quickly, but disaster would follow him everywhere. Now that his colleagues Pablo and Kelly (Ray Santiago and Dana Delorenzo) are also involved in the fight, he has no choice at all: the chainsaw has to be back on, baby! The series has already been renewed for a second season, so that's good news. Even better news is that El Jefe is a really cool episode. It's atmospheric, it's creepy, and it has enough humor to keep it nice and light. The series does not take itself seriously at all. That is contagious. So there's no point in condemning the series for something it doesn't want to be. It must also be exaggerated, over-the-top and a tad absurd. The series winks at us. I am sure to wink back. I am sure many viewers will watch this with a smile on their face. Before you know it, the episode is over. You probably crave more. I immediately understand why there is so much enthusiasm for this series among fans and international channels. Sam Raimi (the director of the original) directed this episode. The result is certainly impressive. It really looks cool. The scene where Amanda (Jill Marie Jones, Sleepy Hollow) faces her colleague and Raimi plays with the lighting is beautiful. Just like the scene where Ash, Kelly and Pablo are attacked in Ash's trailer stands out. Raimi knows what he is doing and I hope that the other directors can operate on the same level. It's an excellently directed episode. If the rest of the season looks like this, we have nothing to complain about. This is an absolute must and I already think one of the coolest new series of this year! (www.meneervevie.com)

Super nice start, expectations were very low, but was tipped off by someone else, that's why this series also gave a chance, on imdb the series also started well with a 9.3, although that will go down a bit, first episode of mine 8 hopefully it will remain so wonderfully dosed in terms of excitement and humor.
