Masters of Sex is an American dramaseries on Showtime. The series will premiere september 29 2013.

Masters of Sex stars Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan, who will portray the real-life pioneers of the science of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson. The series chronicles the unusual lives, romance and pop culture trajectory of Masters and Johnson. Their research touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a mid-western teaching hospital in St. Louis to the cover of Time magazine and nearly a dozen appearances on Johnny Carson's couch. Masters of Sex marks Sheen's first regular series role for television. The series is an adaptation of Thomas Maier's book Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, The Couple Who Taught America How To Love. The pilot episode was directed by Academy Award® nominee John Madden (Shakespeare in Love, and the current hit indie film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), who also serves as executive producer, and also stars Caitlin Fitzgerald (It's Complicated), in the role of Masters' wife, Nicholas D'Agosto (Heroes) and Teddy Sears (American Horror Story). Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actor Beau Bridges and Margo Martindale also appear in the pilot. Masters of Sex was created and executive produced by Michelle Ashford (The Pacific). The series will also be executive produced by Timberman Beverly Productions' Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman, and Judith Verno. Michael Sheen and Tammy Rosen will serve as producers. Masters of Sex is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Thanks, Karin. Masters of Sex is (very) strongly acted, intriguing and interesting. It is, as it were, a journey of discovery that you take together with Dr Masters and Virginia Johnson. Like Mad Men, it's a watch series, so you don't have to watch a series if you value action more, lots of plots and the like. This is enjoying engaging characters and character development. Ray Donovan (who I've reviewed weekly myself doesn't come close) and Homeland's second season can't quite match this in terms of quality, at least according to the prevailing opinion of many critics and I, personally, agree. .

Definitely the best pilot of the fall. I tip this one as a big contender at the award ceremonies next year. Those who love period series such as Mad Men and The Americans should not miss this one. Let's just hope Showtime maintains this quality, because with Ray Donovan, Dexter and the second season of Homeland they didn't do so well. Just keep your fingers crossed, so

Hmm, I just loved Ray Donovan and the second season of Homeland. I'll give him a chance. I gave up on the trailer. I always value your judgment, so I'm going to check it out this afternoon

Think Don Draper with his snout buried in a beflap. Peggy Olson frolicking with a bright pink runaway Tarzan. 'Masters Of Sex' has that fifties Mad Men vibe, except Roger Sterling is now a gynaecologist and the billboards have been replaced by self-satisfying people. “Good deal”, I hear you think, but don't celebrate too soon. 'Masters Of Sex' is certainly entertaining and has that pleasantly languid tempo that permeates 'Mad Men', but if there were a birthday, 'Mad Men' would just sit at the grown-ups' table and 'Masters Of Sex' at the children's table. Nothing wrong with that, of course, and given that Showtime has already ordered a second season of the series, we might see her come to full maturity. And that the series is loosely based on the duo William Masters and Virginia Johnson who began pioneering research into sexuality and sexual "abnormalities" in the 1950s. If you wanted to put a lot of feathers in their shit, you could even argue that they were the spark in the spice barrel called 'sexual revolution'. "Well, that's quite a bold statement, Gumstarr."
