Variety is now reporting that Station 19's seventh season has been confirmed, along with a change in showrunners. Krista Vernoff, who served as showrunner since season three, will be succeeded by lead writer Zoanne Clack and director Peter Paige. Clack released a statement regarding the exciting future of Station 19, which can be read below:
“I feel incredibly honored to be entrusted with this dynamic and relevant show alongside Peter,” Clack said. “The diversity of the cast, writers, and crew in addition to their enormous talent and dedication to their craft makes this a thrilling adventure to undertake. We are excited about the stories we get to tell using this worldwide platform and both understand the responsibility of being able to share them as we reach into millions of homes weekly. Many thanks to Krista and Shondaland for this opportunity and their faith in us.”

Recent major twists in Station 19 season six have proven that the drama has many more stories to tell with its large cast of characters. In the fifteenth episode of the sixth season, Merle Dandridge's Natasha admitted to dating Boris Kodjoe's Sullivan, leading the two to fight about the past. Meanwhile, Stefania Spampinato's Carina and Danielle Savre's Maya try to rebuild their relationship.
The number of character-driven storylines in Station 19 season six are indicative of how the series can continue to deepen the drama in its seventh season. Key events like Jay Hayden's Travis pulling out of the mayoral race are defining moments of season six, making it likely that season seven will continue to explore the personal lives and aspirations of the main characters while adding new interests all the time.
Now that Clack and Paige are showrunners, the series may also feel different in its seventh season, should the duo have a new take on how the series is presented. Clack's statement emphasizes the idea of season seven as an "exciting adventure," which could hint at more harrowing gunfights in the future. However Station 19 develops in its seventh season, Clack and Paige's previous work on the series means the characters will still have plenty of new, dramatic storylines in their futures while staying true to what came before.
