I liked the backdoor pilot better than the actual pilot. Far too much clumsy exposition and forced too. More than 40 minutes was spent on exposition and too little on plot. A very unfortunate first episode, but the last minutes made up for it and at least gave an indication of why you should follow this series. In that respect it is typical of a CW series: not always of the highest quality, but entertaining.

Since the current series that I all follow are only in again, I'm ready for a "new" series. The typical thing is that I was hesitating between The Vampires Diaries and this series, without reading the comments. I'm really looking forward to this series!

Until now I was never a fan of series about vampires / werewolves etc. until I watched Shadowhunters on Netflix. I thought this was rubbish in terms of acting and read in the reviews that TVD was so much better, so at TVD I looked at the reviews and there I read again that there was a spin off The Originals. Read here again that this series is so much better than TVD so I will keep watching this first. This way you can see how your reviews can influence the viewing of various series. In the end, of course, I decide for myself whether I like something or not, but it is funny to see series that I would normally never watch. And of course watching via Netflix helps with this. Overigns I just started with the Originals but it is played very well and that is a relief after watching Shadowhunters. Maybe I will also watch TVD in due course.

The second episode was very interesting. Good plots too that were set out for the rest of the season. It's also cool that the perspective shifted to Rebekah in this episode. Also strong acting from Klaus, Rebekah and Marcel who really puts himself on the map as Marcel. A very charismatic actor, Chad Michael Davis. I've never seen Vampire Diaries, but does anyone know why Klaus and Rebekah have an English accent and Elijiah doesn't? And why the younger Marcel has an English accent, but the current Marcel does not? Is this a conscious choice, otherwise it is best separate.
