Have seen the whole series. I thought the series was very good, a relief! Especially the actor who plays Merlin is very good. His attitude of half hanging on to his stick while appearing wise and silly is very entertaining and unique. What also attracted me and is very strong in the film is the dividing line between fiction (spirituality) and reality. On the one hand you see magic and fantasy and on the other you see the real historical course of Romans in Britain. That way you can choose to see the magic as something real or just how the Iceni, which I think the Fey are supposed to represent, could experience it then. I have been looking for a long time for a series that can put cultures that magical thinking into a realistic perspective. It does not matter that something really happens now and then that is not possible. There is also a nice pace in the story, there are almost no dull moments. I think this series has one of the highest tempos in its storyline I've ever seen, which makes it very strong. There are a few points for improvement. It seems that many scenes were not finished. That sometimes bothers you because you know more again and then find out through a completely different scene how it turned out. For example, Nimue and a few others were whirling around in a demon mountain and then suddenly they jumped to a scene with other figures, where Nimue suddenly appeared without telling how they got out of the mountain? You just miss a whole lot there. I also don't think Arthur and Nimue are very good. I think the actress who plays Nimue has a certain charisma, so she looks like an ex. But something seems to be missing. They are not strong characters in the series, compared to others like Merlin and the Weeping Monk. Which may also have to do with the uncertainty of their character. Obviously, they have yet to become the person they are according to legend. I also wonder whether certain things have been worked out properly. For example, the Widow (from the shadow lords?), First Merlin's friend, but is she still that at the end of the story? Will I still find out? I don't think so, the ending was very open and hoped to clarify that. She is now dead because she wanted to stop Morgana from bringing the sword to Nimue. This after Morgana heard that the Widow is stalking nimue and doing something to deceased people. I don't know if I should conclude that the Widow was just playing a big game with Merlin and I haven't figured it out at the end of the series. On the one hand, the Widow is an oracle for Merlin, on the other an antagonist. I therefore found the end very disappointing and based on that I should give the series a 7 instead of an 8.
Tastes differ, it turns out. I thought it was a very nice series to watch and I hope there will be a second season. Maybe not the best series, but definitely worth watching for me.
Exciting storyline. Nice concept. Unfortunately poorly acted by the lead actress. Beautiful girl but unbelievable for fight scenes and decisive actions. The background acting actions are also amateurish. Strange choices for such a potentially excellent series. Unfortunately !!
